Some challenges are that they don't have a seprate pipe for storm water and waste water. They didn't have bathrooms, so they dug deep holes called outhouses. So it contaiminates the fresh water underground. The water that has traveled around the city wasn't treated. Some challenges that remain are some water still romes around the city untreated since the treatment plants can only hold and treat so much water. So there is still bad water getting dumbed in fresh water.
2. What positive impacts does the NYC sanitation system have on the bodies of water surrounding the city? What threats does the sanitation system pose to the surrounding waters?
Some postitive impact NYC's sanitiation system have on the bodies of water is that they have made plants that can help clean must of the water. So not all the dirty water gets in, and the fresh water doesn't get contiaminated. Plus the plants let out better water than it could be. Which makes it SO much healthier. Some threats that the sanitation has on the bodies of water is though it helps all that fresh water, that took a long time to get fresh and it still just gets contaminated.

Our poop goes on an "adventure" once it is properly disposed into a working toilet. This is what it has to do. First when it is flushed down the toilet it goes into a fertilizer then into proccesed into pellets. Then the pellets are sold to farmers down south, and they send the pellets to them. After the farmers use the pellets to fertilize citrus groves in Florida. Then it goes to grazing lands and corn fields in Virgina and wheat fields in Colorado.Then they grow food and ship it to us. Then we eat it and it starts all over.
