1. In what ways did New York City's location (surrounded by water!) allow it to become a major urban center of the world?  Include in your response the different roles that water played in New York's development throughout history.

New York City's location is being surrounded by water, which made it the most major urban center of the world.  it made it the major urban in the world because since the water is surrounding it, it makes it easier to catch marine animals, and it also makes traveling easer for example traveling from new york city to europe and england and europe and other countries around the world.

The different role that water is played in New York's development throughout history is that they made a croton aqueduct and it's job was to be a bridgelike structure supporting a canal passing over a river or low ground area. So by doing that they where able to become a developing state.

The croton aquaduct carries about 100 million gallons of water a day. This was finish in the 19 centuary. The croton aquaduct was started by John Bloomfield Jervis,   construction began in 1885. It was built for it to meet New York city's needs for 100 years.

The croton aquaduct helps New York City become a developing part of the USA by it giving New york City water from the croton dam for the New York city population use it for their needs. This atrated other people to come since it was developing and they came in boats to NYC.
