Hydrosphere <-> Metropolis

1. In what ways did New York City's location (surrounded by water!) allow it to become a major urban center of the world?  Include in your response the different roles that water played in New York's development throughout history.

 New York City's location allowed it to become a mojor urban center of the world because it had made trade between the five boroughs much easier. Also NYC is surrounded by the East River, The Atlantic Ocean, The Hudson River, and The New York Harbor and because of this NYC was able to make trade with the other boroughs because the other boroughs were located near there also. This allowed NYC to become allowed NYC to major urban center of the world because scince there was no way for the people in the city to travel to other places so NYC started to build bridges for cars. This was really interesting because the bridges were above the water.Also the Canal street we have today was made on a canal and a river many years ago. They also built some skyscrapers on water. The role that water played in New York city is really big because witout the water NYC would have not have some of the greatest street,buildings,bridges, or even places.
