In what ways did New York City's location (surrounded by water!) allow it to become a major urban center of the world? Include in your response the different roles that water played in New York's development throughout history.
New York's location helped it become a major urban center of the world because since the city is surrounded by water,it helped early settlers create a better industry. They traded with different countries that were nearby and that made more people come to NYC to trade and to live there because of all the business that was going on there. The roles that water was used for was that the river that was named after Henry Hudson, also known as The Hudson River, was used to provide early New Yorkers water for them to drink because they used to get their water from the bodies of water nearby since it was clean but then it got dirty and contaminated to use.It was also used to travelers to come to the city to go and live there and that played a huge role in the making of an urban center because it might have meant to someone that since a lot of people were going to to the city, then there must have been some great business or activity going on that was attracting everyones attention.Another way it was used, was for traders to trade with the people in New York and to sell their merchandise to the people in the city.
