In what ways did New York City's location (surrounded by water!) allow it to become a major urban center of the world? Include in your response the different roles that water played in New York's development throughout history.
One way was that it became a major port for stores and sales people. It also allowed people from other countries to come to america. Then People started the erie canal. Once the erie canal was built it became another huge way to travel. If a lot of people wanted to start new or wanted some new adventure they tried coming to america. Then america became even more developed and so ellis island was built. If people from other countries were coming they would have to be checked out in ellis island by doctors. If they were ok they would be sent to america, if something was wrong they would be sent back to their countries.
Drinking water also played a major part because back then nobody drank pure water. People either drank beer or tea. So even though the water was dirty it was cleaned while making the drink. But then the water got so dirty and a lot of people were getting sick. By now people started to take action and helped clean up the tow. Here is a little fun fact, The town used to be soo dirty that you could smell the smell from a mile away.
