Gruop Project Part 3 revised

Part 3: Q1:How does New York City get its water?

10 percent of New York Citys water comes from the Croton Resevoir it is brought to NY by an aqueduct that is 41 miles long. The other 90 percent is from the Catskills Delaware's watersheds this is all fresh water.

Q2: What role does your system, the biosphere, play in the process of cleaning the water that comes to our taps? Give examples of the purifying power of this system.

THis photo is when water course was learning about aqueducts and dams by actually visitin one in Croton. In between the learning expirence we enjoyed water that is 10% of NYC's water source(that must make you want to drink more water).

Explaining Cohesion and Adhesion

  • How can we observe the cohesion and adhesion of water?  Give examples that an average person could understand.  Also, you might use counter-examples, of substances that don't display cohesion or adhesion.
  • Cohesion: When a like molecules cling together.
  • An examole of Cohesion interaction is if aa bead had a string the size of it intersecting thru it, and would get longer and bond if a bead would get close.
  • Adhesion: When different molecules cling.
  • An example of Adhesion Molecules is if you use a plastic cup with marbles and put paper balls the s

Water Cycle & Acids, bases using pH

Water Cycle:

1. Why is the water cycle an important factor in one of the earth's process?

It is important because without the water cycle water will not be able to be naturaly purished.

2. How does percipitation, condensation and evaportation play a role in the cycle?

percipitation plays a roll by deposing waters different forms from the atmosphere to earths surface.

condensation plays a roll by turning the water phase into a vapor phase of water.

Croton Dam and Aqueduct Questions

1.      What is an aqueduct? What makes the Croton Aqueduct an aqueduct?

An Aqueduct is a mand made tunnel used to flow water from one location to another. the croton aqueduct is an aqueduct because

  • it is man made
  • it is in the figure if a tunnel
  • and is used to allow water to travel to different locaions.

2.      Why was the Croton Aqueduct built? What need was it constructed to fulfill?

the Croton Aquaduct was built toallow water to flow from the Croton Dam to New York City.

Blog Entry: Sewage and the City

1.  Describe the evolution of NYC's sewage system.  What were some of the challenges that the city faced in its development of a waste removal system?  What are some challenges that still remain?

some challenges the cit has faced in its developnents are trying to store waste properley and being aware of were it is going to be thrown away. Some challenges they face now are such like how the collected sewage is disposed.

2.  What positive impacts does the NYC sanitation system have on the bodies of water surrounding the city?

Hydrosphere <-> Metropolis

In what ways did New York City's location (surrounded by water!) allow it to become a major urban center of the world?

An urban area is an area with an increased density of human-created structures in comparison to the areas surrounding it. New York Citys locaton allowed us to become a major urban center of the world because it is surrouned by water. This makes it an urban location because a human-created structure in New York City are surounding the bodys of water. The human-created structures are Sky Scrapers the. Sence
